The Initial Consultation
To meet with the potential customer and discuss their general business operation, database needs and provide, if required, a demonstration of FileMaker Pro’s capabilities. Normally, this 2 – 3 hour meeting enables us to give the customer an overview of FileMaker’s capabilities, equipment requirements – and allows the customer to determine our knowledge, development skills and abilities. Upon completion we provide a one page Needs Analysis with an approximation of cost and development time line.
Normally there is no charge for the Initial consultation*.
The Specification stage consists of initiarting the design and development process; we map out the number of ‘modules’ required, the fields, the features, layout & design, relationships, working methodology etc. At this stage we begin to define exactly what is required in terms of software, hardware and programming needs. The information gained during the initial meeting – and subsequent discussions/meetings is the basis of the specification. This is our blueprint – and like an architects blueprint for a builder, this is just as important to us during the development and programming stage.
The Programming Stage
The development – where the process progresses from ideas and mockups into a database. Much interaction between customers and developers is still required to finalise all aspects of the solution. Prototype files are provided to the customer for confirmation of the look and feel as well as general operability. Beta testing irons out all the bugs until final version is installed.
If required, legacy data from earlier systems may be input at this time and on completion of this stage, the database is handed over to the customer.
